Richard is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioner (UK). A former Court appointed Arbitrator and an Accredited Mediator. Chairman of the Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP Salary Trust. President of the Australian Heraldry Society, Former Vice-President and Treasurer of the National Trust (NSW).

Among awards received are – Medal Royal Australian Historical Society in 2004 and Silver Medal of the National Trust of Australia. Richard was made a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his community work.
